A research study demonstrated how compact growth chambers supplemented with carbon dioxide greatly shorten the growth and maturation time for soybeans, accelerating cycles for plant breeding. This allows for quicker, more efficient crossing and research projects.

The study from the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists found that the generation time of an elite soybean cultivar was shortened by 32 to 47% in compact growth chambers with fluorescent lamps and additional carbon dioxide. The report describes the process and parameters used here, which can be optimized for other soy cultivars and types of crops.
