The Johnson Farm of Frankfort, South Dakota is this year’s winner of the South Dakota Leopold Conservation Award. In 1986, the family went 100 percent no till, following that with cover crops, crop rotation and variable rate seed and fertilizer application. Their sustainability efforts have yielded better soil health and water retention, along with increased production.
