The true value of soybean meal can be determined by its amino acid profile and the digestibility of those amino acids. Soybean meal digestibility impacts formulation costs of poultry and swine diets, and the United States has better digestibility characteristics for poultry and swine than meal from other origins.

Comparing U.S. and other origins’ soybean meal data from October 2018 through June 2021, U.S. soybean meal has an advantage in all amino acids, the 10 essential amino acids SID content for pigs, and the 12 essential amino acids for poultry.

When considering the 5 EAAs, U.S. soybean meal has an advantage over other origins in both the content of standardized ileal digestibility of five essential amino acids and the SID digestibility of those amino acids.
